Paint
For my paintings I use acrylic paint from different brands. My favorite paint brand is Arteza, as their paints are rich in pigment and they work very smooth on the canvas. They are definitely my go-to for any details and work with brushes.
Another brand I use a lot is Amsterdam Acrylic standard series. They have nice big jars that are affordable (especially when purchased in bulk) and therefore I use those whenever I do acrylic pours.
I also absolutely love Van Gogh acrylic paints. It’s very easy to work with them, especially if you want to blend and use water to make them thinner, without them losing color intensity.
Cheaper paints (for example Van Bleiswijck from Action) are just a waste of money and the environment, in my opinion. They are very low in pigmentation, so you would need a lot of it, if you can even get to the result you’d want.
Acrylic Paint markers
For outlines and smaller details I use acrylic paint markers
Brushes
I haven’t really found a favorite type or brand of brush yet. I use lots of different types and sizes. In my work I blend a lot (for example for shading), and those worn-out bristly brushes are amazing for that! I do prefer using non-animal products.
Canvases
Whether it’s cotton or linen, I’ll use it all. I do like the result on canvases with an edge better, as I also like to paint the edges.
Other tools
For bubbles/circles I use an iris circle drawing tool (for smaller circles). Sometimes just household items to outline with a pencil or whiteboard marker. Or, for really big circles, I simply go for a pushpin and a rope!
For squares I use cookie cutter shapes.
For sharper edges and lines I use masking tape.
For acrylic pours I use PVA glue mixed with water as a pouring medium. For pours with cells I use silicon drops in my paint and a little torch (it’s a crème brûlee burner) to pop those cells. As a swiping tool I use old thicker plastic sheets that I repurposed.
Recycling, re-using & waste reduction
I love our planet! Therefore I am making conscious choices about re-using materials and trying to waste as little as possible. Acrylic pours can have lots of paint drip off the canvas. I catch that paint and re-use it for new paintings. My cups, stirring materials and such are all washable and re-usable.
I have no affiliations, sponsorships or connections with any of the brands I listed, I’m only speaking from personal experience and preferences!
